Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter aged 18 yrs had depression/anxiety like symptoms 18 months back. As treatment for depression was not yielded any result, further treatment done for schizophrenia. She was doing well except having crying spells without reasons. This was not there for some time. As again it started 1 month back, apart from schizo. medications, depression medication was added. still crying spells continued, Psychiatrist suggested to take EEG. The result says "there are few bursts of bisynchronous bilaterally symetrical sharp waves seen.Shows potential generalised siezure activity". What is it? Could it be reason for giving psychiatric symptoms or it is part of psychiatric problem? kindly clarify!
Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. There could be two reasons. First one is that the psychiatric problems could be due to these bursts of seizure activity. She will need valproates or carbamazepine to control these bursts and the further psychiatric symptoms as well. Another rare possibility is that the findings of EEG were just coincidental. The good drugs for schizophrenia are olanzapine, risperidone or aripiprazole etc. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
