Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on livalo for cholesterol and my ratio is only 2.4 with 120 all over. I also take and megared krill oil. I do not understand having to take this highpowered new drug when the results are outstanding. He also has me on bystolic (2.5 at present, but I know he's going to want to raise it and my blood pressure stays at 114 over 66 now) and also on losartan 100/25. I feel terrible. From my feet up to my waist hurts all the time. My weight has increased up to 180 (I am now obese) and how can I loose weight taking two drugs that slow my heart rate to where even with hart weight bearing exercise will not get over 60 and maybe 76 at the highest. Do I need to change doctors?
You ask your doctor to reduce the dose of the medicine so that resting heart rate remains between 55 to 65. You can also ask to stop the medicine if you don't have any chest pain or heart attack previously, only for hypertension you need not be on rate control drugs.
You request him to put on the anti-hypertensive drugs will not decrease the heart rate. You can certainly do the exercises with these drugs on as well, if you are not any symptoms like dizziness or fainting. Follow healthy lifestyle like avoid fatty, oily and high calorie diet. Have low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly thrice a day for one week then once or twice a week. Regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging according to your capacity at least 30 minutes a day and 5 days a week will help.
Eat lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, fish once or twice a week, and avoid meat. Avoid smoking and alcohol if any. There shouldn't be abdominal fat deposition or obesity.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Sagar Makode
