Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 65 year old female with a history ot breast cancer and head and neck cancer (non smoker), both in remission. My LDL is 138 My HDL is 53. Wha Should I work towards getting my LDL to the optimal range of 100 through diet and more exercise? Since my HDL is low, combined with my HDL level, I read where these numbers are more correlated with stoke than heart disease. Response in less than 15 minutes please.
The direction you take depends on you. A healthy life is not dependent on age. You should try to reduce your LDLs and increase your HDLs. Exercise is not the only way to increase HDL. Taking Omega-3 fatty acids daily can help with lowering the cholesterol while increasing your HDLs. Continue to lower your trans fats and saturated fats that contain many foods thought to stimulate cancer growth as well. Keep sat. fat below 7%. Eat Oats, oatmeal, cheerios type cereals, flax seed to lower LDL and increase HDL. Walk 150 minutes per week. These things should get you on the road to wellness. If you want a specific guide, the Heart Association recommends the TLC or Total Lifestyle Change Diet is a map for such a change in your life. Good luck.
