Suggest Opinion On Doing Heavy Exercise After Tonsillectomy

I had a tonsillectomy 2 weeks ago. Almost all the scabs are gone in my throat. I was wondering when I can resume heavy physical exercise again? At my post-op visit my ENT said 3 months until I can go back to personal training at 100% intensity. I found this time frame to be a bit outrageous. So with anything I m seeking a second opinion.-Thanks

Hi,

Well, after Tonsillectomy surgery a period of 2 weeks rest is advised and you are advised not to do any heavy physical activity for 2 weeks post surgery. However, it also depends on the healing progress and how extensive the surgery was. So accordingly, the rest can be advised.

Doing heavy physical activity post surgery can cause increased pain and discomfort and also delay the healing process. Also, it can lead to injuries to delicate tissues that are healing. So it is advisable to resume low intensity exercise that too only as per the suggestion of your treating Physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
