Suggest Postoperative Care For Varicose Veins Surgery
Hi Dr,
My Mother had saphona varix ligation surgery last week and now is 4 days post op. Her leg has some araes with swelling in both her calf and thigh. She already has varicose veins in her leg. What is the lilehood of developing a clot post this surgery and what is the correct post op care. She did not receive any specific post op instructions except light mobilisation but she was not asked to wear anti embolic stockings. Should she have ?
hello, the postoperative care for varicose veins surgery includes operative wound care by proper aseptic dressing , mobilization for at least 30 min. twice daily to a flat ground, donot climb stairs and incline ground , avoid driving in 1st two week , there may be discoloration of lower limb in 1st week if stripping of vein was done along with the flush ligation but will disappear with time , analgesic to alleviate pain , limb elevation by putting pillow underneath and height of lift must be like that sole must be above the level of heart, wear elastic stocking atleast for 4 weeks, there may be swelling of operative limb if stripping was done due to defective drainage of lymphatic system but with time it improves when mobilization increases
