Dear sir i can understand your concern i am very sorry for your mothers condition. The regular insulins will start acting after 20-30 mints after taking and work very slowly new insulins like nono rapid will start action immediately. in my opinion the insulin dose need to be changed for better diabetes control. There are many new types of insulin available in market which can reduce sugars smoothly and also give 24 hrs coverage. i suggest you to speak with your doc in considering basal bolus regimen. considering the duration of diabetes and heavy fluctuation of blood sugar insulin pump also will be a very good choice. controlling diet is also a very important aspect to stop this kind of shooting up of blood sugars. relax she will settle soon on using new insulins like novorapid +Lantus Regards Dr vamsi Krishna Diabetologist
