Suggest Remedy For Abdominal Obesity

I am a type II insulin dependent diabetic. Just went on insulin a few months ago. Diabetes was well controlled for 10 years with diet and exercise. Had 4 myocardial infarctions in Jan. of 2010, after that sugars were out of control. Now - have put on 25 lbs all in abdomen with bloating and constipation over the last 6 months. I work out at gymn for 90 minutes 3 x per week and walk 2 miles 2x per week. I have a healthy diet with very little junk food. I am eating less, excercising more and still putting on 2 lbs. per week.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Do understand. Insulin is an anabolic hormone. It basically adds to the body mass. So some weight gain is expected after you started the insulin therapy.

As you said, you are already working out nicely. So I wont waste your time telling you to exercise more.
However your diet can have some more modifications, you have said you are on little junk food. It may be better to avoid this completely. A review by a dietician about the food consumption may also be a very significant step.

What is your HbA1C?

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
(If the answer has helped you, please indicate this)
Best of luck.
