Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a small boil on the outer edge of the anus. Had one some 6 months ago along with pain and my doc here said it fissure. Why am I getting this again now and what does it mean? I am 61, female, obese, diabetic with Type 2 but with good control on my blood sugar.
Hello I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Type 2 diabetes and obesity contributes to the problem making fissure difficult to heal. The best way to treat anal fissure is to keep it clean, dry, control blood sugars and avoid straining during defecation. Constipation and straining at defecation can worsen the problem try adding fiber rich food to diet, plenty of water to drink along with a dietary fiber supplement available over the counter to add bulk to stools. This will ensure easy and smooth passage of stools thereby preventing further damage. Follow Sitz bath using lukewarm water in a tub filled enough to soak your bottom when you sit in the tub, Betadine or Epsom salt may be added. Soak the bottom for 10 minutes every day and pat the skin dry after the procedure. Sitz bath is to be continued daily till the fissure heals followed by once every 3 days for prevention of problem and personal hygiene. Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
