My friend just called me because I m a nurse and she went to the ED today and found she had 2 herniated lumbar discs. She doesn t think they discharged her with any precautions. Just gave her a referral for Neurosurgeon. I told her I m sure there s a weight limit on what she should carry, and probably some other positional things, but I m a Cardiac Nurse, so not totally sure.
At what level are the herniated discs? How bad are the discs? These questions need to be known.
I should tell you that she should avoid lifting any sort of weight till the official consultation with the neurosurgeon is completed. Till then, she should use a lumbar corset and avoid lifting weights or bending forwards.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
