Suggest Remedy For Pain Due To Blocked Tear Duct, Swelling And Oozing Pus With No Help From Antibiotics And Steroids

Good evening,
I have a blocked tear duct and am in pain from it. It started with my eye tearing last week. This past Tuesday, started swelling on the bottom close to nose. Went to my eye Dr Tuesday evening. He gave me steroid drops. Got worse. Went back Wednesday. He gave me oral antibiotics and antibiotic drops. Have been using drops and taking antibiotics. Seems to be getting worse. Now it is more swollen and there is puss coming out of the tear duct on the bottom. I was going to wait till Monday (today being Friday) to see if it clears up. I don't want to rush to an ophthalmologist or an ENT to get it unblocked. My insurance deductible is high! Is there a chance that the antibiotics haven't fully worked yet (on them about 48)? How long should I let this go till I see and ENT?
Thanks a lot!

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that you are having blocked tear duct associated with swelling and discharge.
This indicates acute inflammation of the lacrimal sac called as acute dacyocystitis.
The treatment is by oral antibiotics and oral antiinflammatory drugs and topical antibiotic eye drops.
Applying hot compression to the swelling provides symptomatic relief.
Steroids should be avoided here as it is infective condition.
If the symptoms won't decrease then incision and drainage may be required.
Hence you can wait for another two days with antibiotics before considering surgery from ophthalmologist.

Thank you
