Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a scar on my sternum at the site of my CABG (2001) incision 4 X1 which has developed into Keloid over the last 10 years. It is now very sensitive and seems to be growing and is specially affected by the jerking during rough car journeys and at night when I change sides etc. I have been applying Hexilax over extended periods without any real relief. I can send photos of the affected area. I have been advised Tricort injection, laser and surgery as treatment but have been informed of its limitations and disadvantages. I would be grateful for your guidance. Jayanta Sanyal. Gurgaon, M:0000
Hello Mr.JAYANTA A true keloid continues to get worse even after a year, and some may progress for 5-10-15 years ( as may be in your case ).It would appear that the maturation & stabilization of the collagen fibrils is inhibited.
Treatment is extremely difficult. Excision and re-suture are certain to be followed by recurrence and although X-ray treatment was used in the hope that this would prevent recurrence but the results are UNCERTAIN. Improved results have been obtained by SHAVING AWAY the excess tissue, taking care not to carry the incision into normal tissue at any point 7 then resurfacing the area by a thin SKIN GRAFT . Some excellent results have also been obtained by the injection of stroid preparation but under expert . I think this report will help you . If possible upload the picture of keloid or scar( hypertrophic ). Good luck.
