My sister (age 55) and I (age 57) both have had patches of pinpoint-sized red spots (petechiae?)-- NOT itchy bumps--on our lower legs for several years. Mine mostly cleared up for a few months, but suddenly reappeared overnight. My sister's got worse, and now look more like brownish bruise-like patches--but her doctor said, "They don't know what causes them!" We each have our prescriptions for various things, but they're very different. We do both need vitamin D; and we both occasionally suffer from RLS. I gained 50 lbs in the past 7 years, and am "puffy," especially in my face & around my eyes. I have taken Synthroid for many years-- but I still blame my thyroid for the weight. I am slowly depuffing, a little, due to various diet changes I've made. My sister does NOT have the hypothyroidism, yet she puffed up this badly only a couple years ago! (Thanks to her Topamax, her weight is back to normal.) We can't help but think our leg spots have the same cause, but don't know what that could be. After a little online research, I can see the possible causes are numerous-- but we could use help in narrowing down the list. We MIGHT get our doctors' interest if we have some ideas. Thanks!
