Hello,

In old age the bones in our body don't have similar strength as they have in young or adult people. They become more fragile and their healing process after any injury is also slow comparatively. The doctor has advised complete bed rest for 3 weeks because of its severity. It is suggested not to do any physical activities that might put pressure on it and delay the healing.

If the painkillers are not able to reduce the pain, its better to consult the treating doctor if any change in medicine or dosage of the medicine can be made. As he is well aware of your mother's overall health, like any other condition like hypertension or diabetes is there. Depending on that he might suggest necessary changes. Wearing a hip belt and sufficient bed rest for 3 weeks is a must. Make sure to follow the instructions as per his advice.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
