I went to the pool for four hours and forgot sunscreen. I have a bad sunburn on my face, shoulders, upper back, and upper chest. The skin on my shoulder is rough and has tiny bumps all over it. Exactly like leather. It s not bad enough for blisters but its bad. And it hurts when I move my arms in a certain way. It hasn t started peeling yet. Any of it. Its still bright red, and my lips are burnt too. Im kind of worried. Im 15
UV B spectrum of the sunscreen is mainly responsible for causing a sunburn. Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to take a short course of an oral steroids. Oral steroids are rapidly acting and immediately bring down the swelling and discomfort.
In addition to that you could use topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a week.
An OTC pain killer/anti-inflammatory e.g ibuprofen or aspirin can be taken twice or thrice daily to relieve the pain and discomfort.
Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day.
