Suggest Significance Of GAD And Insulin Antibody Test
I am having a GAD and insulin antibody test done in the AM. I was diagnosed with Type 2 in 2007. Lately my blood sugars have been high nearing 400 or more at times and my past 3 A1Cs have been 9, 9.7 and 9. My c peptide was 1.93 and glucose at time was 218 (that was fasting). These tests are been done in accordance with my insurance to try to get me approved for a insulin pump. What will these 2 tests do? and what are there significance? Is there a chance I was misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes?
Hi, Welcome to HCM Your C -Peptide seems to be fine. Here we use the cut off as 0.51-2.72. I hope your report also shows a similar cut off values. GAD antibodies are used to differentiate type 1 diabetes and patients with LADA. It is too early to say whether you were misdiagnosed. All i can tell you with the available clinical details is that you couldn't have lasted 7 years if you were misdiagnosed. Any family history of diabetes? Sometimes Patients of LADA can present with early progression to insulin. Hope i have answered your query..
