Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. He is suffering from ADD and
depression and is on Adderall 30 mg and Celexa. Adderall is a stimulant medicine and this medicine also helps to improve day time activities and reduced
drowsiness so helps in depression. Celexa is Escitalopram and the drug is a SSRI medicine one of commonly used in depression. If he is not tolerating the Adderall properly then in such case other medicines can be tried for his ADD symptoms. You can discuss with his
psychiatrist to reduce the doses of drug for better tolerance.
Strattera is Attenterol and the drug is not a stimulant medicine and in some patients it is known to worsen depression and suicidal tendencies, so in my opinion use of this drug should be judged only by risk-benefit analysis.
Other drugs like Modafinil, Armodafinil can be tried. The drugs are not stimulant medicines and are better tolerated than
amphetamines. Though not proper drugs for ADD but they will help in depressive symptoms and he would feel better with good attention. Visit his psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and prescription.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
