My Mother in law has Sjogren s Syndrome. She take meds for anti inflammitory, and dryness. She injured her knee this spring and her rheumatologist will not do an MRI to see what the trouble is. He has put her on a high dose of anit inflammitory drugs that has alot of risky side affects. she will not see anyone else and the leg is not getting better. he keeps telling her it is part of her sjogerns but our family is convinced she needs a second opinion. can you give me your opinion?
Since you have Sjogren's disease you may experience joint pains which may come up periodically. In this situation you need to continue the same medications prescribed by your doctor. It possible that your doctor feels that this knee pains are part of your main problem and that the injury could be a minor one. If so medications will suffice. However, if the injury was a major one like a twist following a game or fall then this will need an MRI for further evaluation. Please continue pain relief measures, icing and range of motion exercises.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. George Verghese, Orthopedic Surgeon
