I am a 43 year old woman (5'9", 135 lb) with acne worse than I had as a teen. I was recently told that there is a type of acne common to women my age. Is this true? Is there a medication that is particularly effective to fight this? What can I do about this problem?Martha
Understanding your concern. As per you query you have acne on face which is because of sebaceous gland under the hair follicle , when sebum get accumulated in clogged duct of sebaceous gland along with dead skin and bacteria they produce acne. Yes it is common in female due to hormonal changes. You should get your hormonal levels monitored. I would suggest you to wash you face 2-3 times a day with mild soap and warm water to prevent the accumulation of oil ,dust and bacteria on your face. Apply vitamin E oil at night. If acne still persists consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe ointments containing benzyol peroxide, azelaic acid or retinoids. Sometimes doctor may also prescribe antibiotics. Avoid greasy creams ,use water based products. Don't pick or touch acne. Apply kojic acid cream on face.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
