Suggest Treatment For Acute Sinusitis Infection For Patient Having High BP
After repeated bouts of severe sinusitis and treatment with everything from Levaquin to Biaxin I was cultured with the result of strep pneumonia present in my sinuses; I also had bronchitis. Since none of these worked and I have had one reaction to Amoxicillin years ago, I was treated with Tetracycline. My follow-up cultures now reveal I have acinetobacter colonies in my sinuses. My doctor sent me too an Infectious Disease MD who didn t want to treat me at this time. They want me to f/u with ENT and I have scheduled an appt in mid-June. What happens if I become ill between now and then? What could I be treated with if I have an active infection? I am 63 y/o female, 5 4 , 119 pounds and have high BP.

If you are symptomatically better after last treatment, with no more fever / headaches / nasal discharge, the second culture need not be taken significant. We can just ignore that, as it is likely a contaminant.
Although, acinetobactor is not at all a common cause of sinusitis. This organism infects patients who are hospitalised for long and receiving prolonged course of IV antibiotics. If at all needed, this organism will be resistant to most oral antibiotics, and will need hospital admission for IV treatment.
