Hi. My 20 year old son had a tonsillectomy on Wed, May 21. He had a lot of post-operative pain for the first 7-10 days post op. On day 6 he started to bleed A LOT. The doc said to bring him in to the office. The bleeding while driving to the office - stopped after about 20 min. The doc suctioned out the side that bled and applied a wet gauze pad with pressure for about 15 min. And my son was sent home. Then 10 days after surgery, Sat May 31, he hemorrhaged again. We rushed him to the ER. After a 2 hour wait in the ER (very early morning, they had to call in ENT and surgical team) they put him under anesthesia and cauterized the bleed and surrounding area. Because he bled a lot both times, post surgery, he required 2 units of blood. After 4 + day hospital stay, he was released yesterday, Jun 4. My son is understandably VERY VERY worried that he ll bleed again, especially with his low HGB. I m also very scared. I know there are no guarantees, but what do you think the chances are he ll bleed again? He seems to be healing well otherwise and the only area that still hurts is the section that was re-cauterized. Can you please help alleviate our fears of a re-bleed as much as possible. Thank you for your support.
