Suggest Treatment For Depression

i have major depression for 12 years, on Paxil, but it stops working every 6 month and my Dr constantly raises and lowers the dose. I get bad side effects at the high doses. I have read and heard from friends that Amino Acids like Trytophan, 5-HTP and GABA could help me ?

Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic

You have major depression and are on paroxetine. The drug is not resulting in improvement. If a drug fails to respond then usually augmentation of therapy is done by lithium carbonate, lamotrigine, thyroid hormones etc. These medicines help in remission of chronic resistant depression symptoms.

Supplements containing Vitamin B12 have excellent role in depression.
Amino acid tryptophan was introduced for use in depression but it was later withdrawn because of some serious side effects associated with its use. Recently L-tryptophan has been launched again but its efficacy has not been proved.

5HTP or serotonin can't result in improvement in depression because the drug can't cross blood brain barrier.

Supplements containing pregabalin have good role in decreasing anxiety associated with depression. Omega. 3 Fatty acid supplements also have good role in depression.

Consult a psychiatrist for treatment of recurrent depression.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
