Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have a question regarding herpes. My partner and I found out that he has herpes virus but no symptoms for the past ten years. The question is I have no symptoms and we have two children together with no symptoms either. Is their any possibility that we could be infected or carrying the virus? How can we be sure?
If your husband is diagnosed that he has Herpes virus but have not got any eruptions in the past ten years clearly indicate the virus is in dormant stage..
Once a person is exposed to Herpes virus he becomes a life time carrier of the virus although there is not always an active infection and the virus can remain dormant in small numbers in the nerves and can stay inactive in the nerves for years..
In case if there is reduced immunity of the body or the resistance is reduced due to some reason then the reactivation and multiplication of the virus can take place leading to outburst of infection..
You can consult an Infectious Medicine Specialist and get evaluated for viral infection by undergoing tests like Antigen-antibody reaction, Polymerase chain reaction etc as per requirement and the test report can help in assuring you with the exact condition..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
