hello my mother in law just got out the hospital. she was in for a blood sugar level of 410 and several gallstones. since she has been out of the hospital she has been taking insulin shots as well as being on a diet of rice and grilled chicken or fish. with all this however her blood sugar is still spiking to well above 500 and the lowest they can get it to is around 280. she also has a damaged liver due to medications taken in the past for her diabetes. is there anything else we can do to bring down her diabetes or is there something were doing wrong now. the insulin shes taking is humulin 70/30. also would her liver have anything to do with the high blood sugar levels
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. Her blood sugar levels are very high. It has both short and long term complications. She should get readjusted the dose of insulin or start a different form of insulin in addition. I will explain -
1.She should start a long acting preparation for insulin like INSULIN BASALOG. Which has 24 hrs action and prevent low blood sugar also. So, ask your doctor about that preparation. Usually we give this insulin at night time after dinner.
2 . Some medicines like Voglibose can be given as it will prevent uncontrolled sugar in all types of diabetes. So ask your doctor about that.
3.A third option to her is using INSULIN PUMP which will control 24 hrs sugar without any further insulin shots. Ask your doctor about that.
4 . check your FBS, PP2BS AND HBA1c report every 3 monthly for adequate sugar control. Thank you. Have a nice day.
