I have a history of hormonal migraine. I was taking topamax daily and imitrex symptomatically. I recently weened off of topamax to see if it was causing weight gain. However, I am currently experiencing a 6 day throbbing headache at the base of my skull in the back of my head. I started the topamax two days ago and have been taking imitrex. The imitrex only helps for a little bit, but not like it used to so I m not sure if this is a true migraine. I am also getting palpatations and when that happens the throbbing gets really severe in my head. Is this something different than a migraine and should I go to the ER?
First of all, you should assess your hormones level and ask an Endocrinologist for help. Because Imitrex can cause vasoconstriction and increase the heart rate, it not suitable for you. After the level of the hormones returns to a normal level you can take a pain killer such as Panadol for headache.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
