Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently injured my knee and had an MRI. The doctor (orthopedic surgeon) said that I completely tore and shredded the lateral meniscus and that it is lodged between the bones in my knee joint. He said the damage is not repairable and recommended surgery to remove most likely the entire meniscus (maybe leaving a little bit if I am lucky). Is this common? Does this sound like a reasonable approach?

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Meniscal injuries have very poor healing rate due to lack in blood supply. So it is better to be removed when damaged more.Otherwise it will only favours in inflammatory process and may get osteoarthritis faster. In such case i advise a diagnostic arthroscopy and arthroscopic repair/excision of meniscus.I also recommend them quadriceps strenghthening exercises after that.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
