Suggest Treatment For Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
My age is 79 and my height is 165 cms, weight around 68 kgs. i am suffering from PLMD and am unable to sleep may times. Also I had a TIA 6 months before for which i am having medicines. is there any relation between the two, secondly is there any treatment for PLMD.
Periodic Limb Movement Disorder or PLMD is a sleep disorder. Presence of cardiovascular illness aggravate the condition. History of TIA is risk factor. Repeated limb movements in night causes loss of sleep and day time drowsiness. PLMD can be treated with proper medicines. First of all to establish diagnosis polysomnography is used. Medicines like Pramipaxol, Ropinirol have good effects. Low dose benzodiazepines like clonazepam, alprazolam also result in improvement.
The medicines are needed to be taken for long to see effect. Iron, Vitamin B12 and E supplements have role in treatment. Consult a psychiatrist for expert opinion and treatment.
Thanks
