Suggest Treatment For Ranula Under The Tongue

Have a sinus infection and currently taking antibiotics. I now have a ranula under my tongue and swelling in my neck on same side as ranula. Did my sinus infection cause the ranula? Should I go back to the doctor. It isn't big, just enough I can feel and see it.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a Ranula is a type of mucous cyst or mucocele that is seen under the tongue in the floor of the mouth and it occurs due to rupture of the duct of sublingual salivary gland secondary to local trauma..
It is not caused due to sinusitis but is due to trauma to the salivary gland duct leading to ruptured duct of the gland..
As you have swelling in the side of the neck, it can be due to swollen lymph nodes due to sinus infection while there can be another reason that can be related to ranula and it can be Plunging Ranula in which swelling is present over the neck..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case if ranula is small mostly it resolves on its own and no treatment is needed, while large ranulas needs minor surgical treatment for removal..
In case if Plunging ranula removal of sublingual salivary gland has to be done..
In case if there is swollen lymph node and not ranula antibiotics will resolve both the sinusitis as well as swelling of lymph nodes..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
