Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Swollen Salivary Gland

Dr. I am worry for my son, when he was 9 months he had a ranula and and had incisions to cut it and drain the saliva, in 2006 his left side neck submandibular or triangle swallen and he had a CT scan and a needle aspiration, they sucked blood not saliva and the soft lump was benign, with the time it went away, now 2 weeks ago my son felt sick flu like symptoms and sore troat , stap came negative, and missed school 2 days, second week same both times the doctor said just rest and drink water, then 5 days ago the swallen started over the night increased a lot so big looked like a baby fist pushing out, this time hard and bigger, Otolaryngologyst thinks is a vascular malformation , but since my son had problems with salivary glads before and I noticed that he was spitting his saliva a lot I wonder if that has something to do, since little he always had rinithis or allergies but never treated

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

You didn't speak about your CT finding, was it salivary gland? Further, what was the FNAC i.e. Cytology report of aspiration fluid? Your son may have rannula which is notorious to recur or salivary gland swelling.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Himanshu Dhanak, Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist
