hello sir my cousin is been sufferig from severe back pain near the hips since 5 years.in the beginning the problem wasnt serious but now he cant sit for minutes.he is always lied down on the bed because of the pain.we have tried a lot of scans and consulted a neurologist who has adviced him to take tablets for 6 months.but inspite the pain has not been cured.is it possible to do any type of surgery or back bone disc surgery??
Hi, I have noticed that his symptoms have gotten worse of late to the point that it pains to sit for a few minutes too. Also you have mentioned that scans were done. Was it a MRI scan of the lower back? If yes, and it shows a normal study then you would need to do dynamic X-rays to search for any disk slippage. On the other hand if it shows a disc protrusion or compression of spinal cord or nerve roots, you would require microdiscectomy surgery after a careful and thorough neurologic examination. Initially you can also go for physical therapy where your pain can be managed with ultrasound therapy and interferential therapy. Hope this has answered your question.
