Suggest Treatment For Stenosis And Arthritis With Diabetes Type 2

Three weeks of severe unrelenting pain. Take 5mgm Vicodin/Beclofin bid with only some relief. I have disc disease at L3.4.&5 with bilateral stenosis and arthritis. Have been offered surgery many times but being an M.D. myself not comfortable with the risk/reward ration of surgical options given my age now of 79. Now having an acute attack at L3/4 with psoas involvement and severe pain. Injections somewhat helpful in the past. No signiicant pain in the last 5/6years. Reached down for something and bang! Recently diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 treated with diet, exercise and Metformin 500mgm bid with A1C 5.7.. Am being offered Medrol pack for attempt at immediate relief. My spine surgeon out of the country for another month. Also concerned re: blood sugar issues with Medrol. Please comment, Many thanks, J. Lowitz, M.D.
