Good afternoon. There is clearly a relationship between nightmare activity and increased
headaches in both migraineurs as well as others who suffer from chronic headaches of any sort. And there is specific treatment these days that can directed at
NIGHTMARES themselves which if controlled (in conjunction with cognitive
behavioral therapy) can result in much more normal and restful sleep activity and this in turn can decrease headache activity. The name of the drug is
PRAZOSIN and if following what is known as the Raskind protocol then, it becomes a very effective tool against
insomnia as well as migraine headaches. Proper application of this protocol requires someone experienced in its utilization and how to also recognize something even more basic which is whether or not what you're describing as the "dream/nightmare" really is a NIGHTMARE or is it some type of aura that forces you awake to the headache or migraine if that's what it turns out to be.
Please write me if you'd like more detailed guidance on how to go about teasing all this out and deciding whether you would be a good candidate for prazosin or not. I do NOT recommend you simply have someone write a prescription or look on the internet to purchase it and then, try and use it blindly without knowing more information....clearly not a good idea.
