Swelling In Mouth, Unable To Open Jaw. Had Removal Of Wisdom Tooth. No Help From Antibiotics. Suggested Operation Due To Infection. Normal?
3 weeks ago my daughter had an impacted wisdom tooth removed. The swelling has not gone down and she is still unable to open her jaw wide enough to eat anything other than soft mushy foods. # courses of antibiotic and she has shown no sign of improvement. Specialist now says she needs to be operated on today because of infection. Is this common?

No this is not common. However, infection is a recognised complication of wisdom teeth removal. She is likely to make a rapid improvement once the infection is dealt with.

no it is not a common but some can develops the secondary infection or may be broken piece of tooth could be there. if it is then get it removed soon.

an abcess developing at the site of tooth extraction.
it has to be drained.
get pus culture and sensitivity test done.
get drained immediately.
you will be then fine.

I would like to tell you that wisdom teeth removal is complicated surgical procedure & it takes time to heal.But since its more than 15 days, so it can be infection which is further a complication of wisdom teeth extraction.
You need to get it operated as early as possible.
Take prescribed medicines & consult your oral surgeon for better details.
