Swollen, Bruised, Painful Ankle Due To Pedal Jamming Into Calf, Hard Mass Inside The Calf. Any Ideas?

Hi, biking accident jammed pedal into my calf area. Lot of pain, swelling and bruising down to ankle. There is a very hard mass "inside" the calf and deep acute pain radiates to ankle area. After a handful of days was able to walk somewhat normal. Didn’t bike again for a week and didn’t run for 10 days. Was able to do both with some discomfort. The hard mass is not going down and pain radiates to ankle intermittently. Any help?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

The information provided by you needs more elaboration.

However, from the information available, injury due to pedal might have caused either

(a) bruises (breach in the skin) through which staph bacteria has entered and caused cellulitis; or,

(b) some bleeding within the calf muscle.

Rest to the calf muscle and ankle joint; cold compresses; a short course of anti-inflammatory pain-killers will heal the injury. A course of suitable antibiotics would also be required, if there is associated staph infection with cellulitis,

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. he will examine the injury and prescribe suitable treatment as advised.
