Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good morning Doctor: My left middle finger is swollen, hard and warm. The area of the first joint (farthest from the palm) is painful and slightly red in color. I can bend it, but it hurts a bit to do so. I don t believe the finger is broken, since I haven t had any accidents or anything that would break a finger. Infection maybe? I m a 53 year old female. Thank you for your time, Mary Ann
Such symptom can be caused by goutarthritis. This condition is caused by uric acid accumulation in the join fluid what causes such strange and localized inflammation. Usually it affect big toe joint, however palm joints can be also affected.
You should visit rheumatologist and have joint fluid diagnostics and palm X-ray.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
