Swollen Left Shin And Foot, Redness, Difficulty Walking, Hard Veins On Legs. Treatment?

My left shin and foot , mostly the sole, became suddenly painfully and swollen. Difficult to walk on. The veins(or arteries?) on the very top of my foot and half way upy shin are extremely hard to the touch. No injury at all. Noticed it when I put my boots on and my shin immediately felt like it was kicked. Foot is swollen, red and warm to the touch

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for posting your query.

According to your description , foot pain and swelling seems to be inflammatory in nature. It can be due to acute episode of gout.

I advice you to give you rest to your foot, take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily) to reduce pain and inflammation and consult your doctor for thorough examination of leg and foot and rule out any infective cause.

Wishing you good health
Regards.
