Swollen, Red, Painful Wrist, Difficulty Moving, Lump In The Wrist. History Of Being On IV In Hospital. Prescribed Ice Pack And Ointment. Suggest
i got admited in hospital on saturday and i got discharged on Monday night. After IVas my right hand wrist has been swellon and looking red and i am felling pain, not able to move my wrist and feeling lump in it. is this worried? doctor has advised me to put ice on it and prescribed ointment to apply on it. please suggest .Do i need to take second opinion?
From the given description, I am of the opinion that your swelling & pain in the wrist could be due to Extravasation of either blood or the IV fluid. This generally is not much of a concern as it will resolve spontaneously with simple Rest to the local part, Elevation of hand and Ice packing & moist heat fomentation.
If your symptoms persist, then consult your treating doctor.
Hi, It seems that due to extravasation of iv fluid there might be having some irritation on the part or thrombophlebitis is there. Continue ice pack application and cream. If require go for one antibiotic medicine course if your doctor feels needed. Ok and take care.
