Taking Labetalol For Increased BP After Child Birth. Want Medicine That Will Not Suppress Breast Milk

I have just had my first baby at 37 he was born at 37 weeks and was 2,400g weight and now at day 5 weighs 2.150g I was on antihypertensives before i became pregnant and came off them as i had trouble getting pregnant. since giving birth my bp has shot up and i am now on labetalol 600mg daily,. I am desperately trying to breast feed before i started the meds on day 3 I had some milk now i have virtually none.

I am going to my own family doctor today to see if there is another medication that I can take for my bp that will not suppress my milk supply my question is does anyone know of a good bp medication that will not suppress my supply

Thanks for using HCM
Labetalol can be taken during lactation, as such no effect on milk production, you can continue tablet. Continue breast feeding, maintain your hydration level adequately by taking lot of fluids. Be confident while feeding your baby, be relaxed don't get stressed, fallow correct feeding position, you can take advice from your paediatrician. This will help to improve your feeding. Have a good health.
