Taking Acarbose For Type 2 Diabetes. What Dosage Should I Take?
Hi.. I am 65 years old man having Type 2 diabetes patient since last 10 years taking glimi cure M2 tablet twice daily before food however my sugar level shpws around 180 t0 200mg/dl. Will please guide me for the same for the dosage taken. I am also taking Acarbose 50 tab twice daily during first bite of my lunch and dinner.
You have not mentioned 'when' the sugars are 180-200 ? Are they before you eat or after eating ? Acarbose only reduces the post prandial (after meal) sugars. It has no effect on fasting sugars (or before meal sugars). For control of the fasting sugars we need to titrate your other medication. Before we do that I need to know what is you HbA1c (Glycosylated hemoglobin). HBA1c tells about your sugar control since the last 3 months.
Please let us know the HbA1c status, the medications you are taking and your following sugar values
1. Fasting (pre breakfast)
2. 2 hr post lunch
3. 2 hr post dinner
4. predinner
5. 2 hr post dinner / bed time
We need atleast 3-4 values each to get a good overall judgement of your diabetes status. Once you let us know these values we may be able to titrate your medications.
