Taking Febujet But No Control Over Uric Acid. Had Severe Pain In Legs And Elbow Joints. Suggest?

I am a male of 43 years of age. I have been taking febujet 40 regularly for the last two years but uric acid is in control and recently it has gone upto 5. For the last four months i had a severe pain in my right leg and then it transferred to the left leg and slowly it is affecting my joint elbow. Shall I increase the dosage of the medicine or should i take different tablet to arrest the pain and to reduce the swellings on my legs. Need your expert advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, it appears that the uric acid has increased due to less efficacy of the drug febujet 40, but it is to be estimated whether the drug stopped working or the dose is not suffecient.
So i advise you to consult your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

This is just to make you know that Febujet is meant to lower the uric acid levels but it will not produce any pain relief in an acute attack of gout.

It is always desirable to keep the uric acid levels below 6mg/dl (in your case, its absolutely fine). There is no role for self care management, so you have to consult your treating doctor either for a change in dosing of the drug or shift to a different drug altogether.

The most commonly used analgesics to suppress the acute pain are Indomethacin, Naproxen sodium, Celecoxib or if symptoms are very severe, a corticosteroid may help in producing symptom remission.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
