Taking High Dose Of Citalopram. Will This Have Caused Any Damage To Heart?

Hi, I've just been informed by my doctor of the recent study which suggests that a high dose of citalopram can cause problems with your heart. I have been on 50mg for about 4 years and am concerned about any long term affects that this may have caused. Could you advise me on whether this may have caused some damage already ? I am reducing my dosage to 40mg, will this take the risk away ?
thanks in advance

Hello.Citalopram has been associated with risk of occurrence of cardiac arrhythmias. Therefore, the maximum recommended dose is 40 mg daily (20 mg in elderly or people with liver failure) With 40 mgr per day of the drug, benefits are greater than the risk and you can continue to take it except if you have a history of arrhythmias or if you're taking another drug that can cause arrhythmias.Iwish you good health.(If the answer has helped you, please indicate this)
