General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for asking in Healthcare Magic

Migraine is characterized by severe throbbing head ache, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to flashes of light and sound. If the attacks come once in a month and are tolerable, then simple analgesics (pain killers) like Paracetamol is adequate to control the headache.

But if the attacks are severe and come more frequently and are associated with other symptoms like vomiting, Paracetamol will be inadequate..

Vaograin is Ergotamine. Taken early in the attack, it produces dramatic relief. But regular use of Vasograin is not justified as it can result in side effects like vomiting, tiredness, tingling, and numbness. It can also cause gangrene due to constriction of blood vessels resulting in reduced blood supply.

Prophylactic (preventive) drugs are used to prevent frequent migraine attacks. Drugs like Propranolol and Flunarizine are given daily to prevent migraine. Your treating Dr will know about these drugs.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mayank Bhargava's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
What is the type of headache?
Do you have any aggravating or relieving factor for this headache?
Do you have associated tears and running nose?
Do you have past history of injury?
Is headache involving whole head or half head?
There are at least 15-20 types of headache have been defined and diagnosis is made generally on the basis of history defined by patient.
Migraine is the most common type of headache and is a syndrome made up of multiple symptoms.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ neurologist and should go for thorough neurological check up.
You should also go for complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, CT/ MRI scan of head, ANA.
Treatment depends on exact diagnosis.
Meanwhile, you should take sumantriptan along with naprosyn, divalproex and propranolol on written prescription from your local doctor.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
