Temporary Cap After Root Canal Came Off. Pain In Lump In Jaw. How To Cure?
My cap came off for a root canal , it was temporary but I am going to see a dentist soon... maybe 2 weeks since usually they take that long where I am at even for emergencies. But I have been on painkillers and I used a little peroxide to subdue the infection. Now, the pain is at a lump in my jaw and I want to get this dealt with since I don t think this can wait two weeks. I also am on antibiotics but I doubt this will clear it completely, will it?

The antibiotics will not affect the abscess that is forming in your jaw. An abscess is an encased infection that is not exposed to its surrounding environment. Since this is closed off to the outside, antibiotics can't go into the infection to help clean it up. It may help contain it and reduce the risk of further exposure, temporarily. The only way to have this completely removed is to expose the infection to the outside environment such as with an extraction of the tooth or a retreatment of the root canal. Since the temp crown fell off, the root canal has been exposed to the bacteria in your mouth which has leaked into the tooth and caused the infection. You should be okay for a few weeks if you are taking antibiotics and you are not having difficulty breathing, swallowing or pain on swallowing.

Just using antibiotics and analgesics will not help .
As the exact cause for the infection should be ruled out by clinical examination by your dentist.
For this an x-ray should be taken to know the extent of infection .

As you have mentioned your infected tooth has undergone root canal treatment with a cap coverage. i suspect the root canal procedure is not completed to its last sitting which has lead to spread of infection and formation of lump in the jaw. Bacterial infection leads to abscess formation which may even spread to spaces of neck if not treated in time.
Antibiotics alone will not help you , i would suggest you to get the abscess drained by a dentist and root canal procedure completed for the tooth. Unless the tooth is devitalised,disinfected and sealed to apex you may experience pain and infection.
clinical examination and associated radiographs are needed before treatment.

Pain & inflammation after RCT indicates there is some problem in RCT. Either some vital pulp tissue has been left or there is some failure in RCT. You need to get it properly diagnosed & treatment may require Re-RCT or extraction based on examination.
Just taking medicines will not cure your problem.You need to go for proper treatment.
Get an IOPAR done of associated tooth & consult your dentist for further treatment.

instead of using peroxide, you can use chlorhexidine 2% mouth wash.this is antiseptic.
do frequent warm saline rinsesthis will localize your infection.

If you have root canal tooth and you’re currently experiencing some incurable health problems, you can take your chance and remove the tooth.
Meanwhile take ibuprofin to manage the throbbing pain. Rinsing with ice water seems to help.
Your dentist may not have found another canal or he didn't reach the tip of one of the roots. Best advice, consult with an endodontist.
