Thick Endometrium Causing Heavy And Frequent Period. Is Having Birth Control The Best Solution?
I am a 43 year old female who had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound done 1 week following onset of a heavy period. Results showed mildly thickened endometrium of 7.5mm. I have been having a period every 3 weeks for the past 3 months. I have had normal periods up until the last 3 months when they began to be very heavy and more frequent. My doctor recommended repeating ultrasound in 3 months and to begin birth control to normalize periods. Is the best course of action?
It is one of the good option. Thickened endometrium causing bleeding heavy with no other obvios organic cause is defined dysfunctional menstural bleeding, it can be better delt with progesterone only pills newer options like sevista or mirena i.e progesterone containing intrauterine device. The women if completed her family can go for endometrial ablative procedures like hysterectomy would be the last and definitive treatment.
Take care!
