Thyroid Problem, Poor Lactation. Thyroid Test Shows T3 Level 118, T4 Level 14.8, Tsh Level 0.04. Advise?
hi i have delivered a baby boy on 18th feb 2013. i have a thyroid prob but it was under control during pregnancy. i used to take 50 mg and 75 mg thyroup pills every alternate days. now i had taken a test on thyroid in thyrocare and diagnosed as t3 level is 118, t4 level is 14.8 and tsh level is 0.04. does it affect lactation? as my lactation production has become poor. pl help
Hi, Welcome to HCM, You are suffering from hypothyroid and taking Thyroxine supplements. yes hypothyroid can affect milk production but this is not the only cause there can me some other cause too. Your T4 level is high with low TSH and you will need reduction of dose of Thyroxine, for which consult an Endocrinologist or Physician. Even in slightly high thyroid level breast feeding can be continued as very low levels in breast milk. After adjustment of dose please repeat your thyroid function after 1 month. If required take proper supplementation of calcium and vitamins. There few medicines which increase milk production your Gynecologist will prescribe to you. Please take care Good Luck.
