Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I had thyroid surgery over a week ago and now have about 10 stitches in my neck . The stitches have look pretty good. Untill today! This morning I have a little of puss coming out of the stitches. Is this normal? I am scheduled to get them out on monday, just don t know if they should be looked at before then. Thanks! Tssa
Pus coming from the wound signifies infection. The stitches which have got infected need to be removed immediately in order to drain the pus . Daily dressings and oral antibiotics to be continued till complete healing of the wound.
It is not normal for pus to come out of the stitches. Are you running fever as well?
You should consult your doctor immediately and ask him to have a look at the stitch line. Any delay can lead to the spread of the infection and a cosmetically bad scar.
Is the pus thick or just liquid kind of discharge?
Hope you get well soon
