Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
To Be Effective In The Colon, Can Pentasa Be Replaced With CR Capsules ?
To be effective in the colon I understand Pentasa must be a delayed release formula so it doesn't get absorbed before it gets to the colon. There are capsules CR . There are also tablets..... but are the tablets also CR such that the mesalamine reaches the colon while still potent? (The capsules are so expensive and the tablets appear to be much less expensive.)
Thank you.

Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).
Tablet pentasa is rather half released in small intestine and another half in colon. And if you require it to be effective in colon then take tab mesalamine like mesacol or coolgut which is released in colon only.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
