Toddler Born Prematurely, Have Recession While Breathing And Cough. Taking Antibiotics For Tonsillitis. Suggestion?
I have a 2 year old with previous CLD born at 29 weeks. He is having some recession while breathing , has a productive cough and has purple mottled legs. He has antibiotics for tonsillitis but I m a bit concerned about his cough/breathing. He is also not drinking but will eat a little which of course is the wrong way around!
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Continue the medication for his tonsillitis as prescribed by the Pediatrician.
Retractions while breathing may be due to lower respiratory tract infection.
So further evaluation with CBP, Chest X ray to be done to look for any infection in the lungs.
So consult your Pediatrician again for the assessment of his respiratory system and for the investigation.
Hope I have answered your query.
Hi,
Babies wih CLD are more prone to viral infections like RSV and can present with bronchitis, pneumonia etc. If the chest recession is new or has increased ,then you better show him to the doctor again .He may need clinical evaluation and saturation monitoring and may be x- ray. Mottling is also a sign of sepsis or poor peripheral circulation.. take care Dr Uma
