Toddler Unable To Talk Properly And Plays Alone. Is It A Sign Of Autism?

3 year old toddler is not talking properly - does try but words only understood by family - he clenches his fists tightly - drools quite a lot - is intelligent and can make himself understood perfectly - attends play group on one day per week but doesn't engage with other children, is more than happy to play alone, (very good at jigsaws, bulding lego etc.) but his words are only half-words - ie ca for cat - fop for stop etc, He also cannot string word together. are these symptoms typical of Autism??

Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.
you history more or less fits into the diagnosis of Autism.
But one has to carefully exclude cerebral palsy.
It is better to consult a Psychiatrist.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
