Took Kenolog Injection In Hip For Bursitis, Unable To Stand Or Walk. How Long Does It Take ?

I had a Kenolog injection in my hip in April for bursitis. Was not told of the side effects. Four days after the injection my hip hurt me more then ever and I was not able to stand or walk. It is now July and I am still having problems. I have also, been diagnosed with Lyme disease and was told I should have never been given the shot. When will this get better? How long does it take to get it out of my body and will things get better over time?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
KENOLOG is a glucocorticoids i.e. corticosterois and injcetion were given in hip joint for bursitis.
The basic pharmacological function of gucocorticoid is anti inflammatory action .
If treatmen of Lyme disease ( as doxycyclin or amoxycyclin or ceftriazone ) not respond then usually we try anti inflammatory treatment .
In my opinion this ( kenolog) is not contraindicated in bursitis.
It may happens that you were already a patient of lyme disease and doctor gave shot .
So please get treatment of lyme disease and you will be alright.
Hope I have answered your question .
If further any question I will help.
Get well soon.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Triamcinolone (kenolog) is a corticosteroid which is commonly used as injections into the joints and inflammed areas (bursae) to suppress the pain arising out of inflammation.

It is not uncommon to encounter an increased pain at the site of injection which is TRANSIENT in nature and should resolve spontaneously within a few days.

Just use some analgesic antiinflammatory medicine and moist heat fomentation.

I am not sure whether steroids are contraindicated in Lyme's disease.

If your symptoms are not regressing, an evaluation is needed to look into other sources of pain in and around the hip joint.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
