Took Paxil For Depression, Back Problems, Enlarged Disc In Neck. What Should I Do?

I took Paxil without a prescription for deppression. A friend gave it to me. I see a new doctor on Friday. I have major back problems. 4 enlarged disc in my neck, C4, C5, C6 and C7. They constantly compress the nerves sending severe pain down my arms, shoulders and back. I have MRI results to prove this. I also have lower degenerative back desease and my spine is curving in the wrong direction. I am in constant pain. What I would like to know is will the unprescribed Paxil in a urine test deter my chances of getting real help and the pain meds I desperately need?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

As per your symptoms neck are due to diffuse disc bulge compressing your cervical spine.

Some medication like methylcobalamine with muscle relaxant and analgesic will reduce pain, you can take them consulting your treating doctor.

Some exercises which can be done after pain has reduced include- gradual neck rotation, touching your ears to shoulder, shoulder shrugging exercises.
You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS ,or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.

I f no relief on conservative therapy then surgical decompression may be required.
I will advise take paxil consulting doctor only.
Hope this helps. Wish you speedy recovery.

Take care.
